First Class Walking Guide – Newcastle
Postman: Barry Cartlige
Barry Cartlige starts his collection of walks 7 miles outside of Newcastle city centre, on the North Shields Fish Quay. The walk runs along the northern bank of the river Tyne to Tynemouth, where there is a ruined priory, and then northwards up the coast to the statue of Newcastle’s favourite son, Lord Collingwood.
The walk then continues back in the city centre, with a stroll along the famous Quayside area featuring the Baltic Flour Mill and the iconic Millennium Bridge.
Barry has worked for Royal Mail for more than 20 years, where he has been based in Newcastle since moving to the City in the late 1980’s.
